On April 15, 1912, sixty-nine Michigan-bound passengers were aboard the RMS Titanic. They were remembered with the hymn “Nearer My God to Thee” and included people bound for Benton Harbor, Calumet, Chelsea, Detroit, Dowagiac, Gladstone, Hally, Hancock, Houghton, Iron Mt, Iron M, Manistee, Pontiac, Port Huron, Sault St. Marie, and Sault Ste. Marie.
