Fiery Furnace is a maze-like sandstone labyrinth near the center of Arches National Park in Utah, known for narrow canyons, rock fins, natural arches, and the reddish glow of its formations at sunset. Unlike a conventional trail destination, it has no maintained route through the interior, and hikers navigate sandy washes, sandstone surfaces, tight passages, and drop-offs among arches including Walk Through Arch and Skull Arch. Though it contains only a small share of the park’s more than 2,000 cataloged arches, it is one of its best-known hiking areas. Its fragile plants, biological soil crust, and ephemeral pools led to a permit system in 1994 to limit access.
