Chetco Peak
Nature
Chetco Peak is a mountain in the Klamath Mountains of far southwestern Oregon, in the southern part of the Kalmiopsis Wilderness. About 15 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean and roughly 10 miles north of the California state line, it stands within one of Oregon’s most remote and rugged landscapes. The peak takes its name, like the nearby Chetco River, from the Chetco people, a Native American community who originally lived along the lower Chetco River in what is now Curry County.
