Rogue River–Siskiyou National Forest spans southern Oregon and a small part of northern California, covering nearly 1.8 million acres from the Cascade Range into the Siskiyou Mountains. Formed in 2004 by merging Rogue River and Siskiyou National Forests, it reflects administrative roots reaching back to the Ashland Forest Reserve of 1893 and Siskiyou National Forest’s establishment in 1906. Its mountainous terrain is shaped by the Rogue River and other Pacific-draining streams. The forest is ecologically notable for extensive old growth, rare northern blue oak stands, and the world’s tallest known pine. It also witnessed the 1942 Lookout Air Raids and the massive 2002 Biscuit Fire.
