Over 600 men left Berrien County, Georgia, to fight for the Confederacy in the War Between the States, including Company G and Company K of the 29th Georgia Regiment, Company I of the 50th Georgia Regiment, Company E of the 54th Georgia Regiment, and the 1st Georgia Militia Home Guards; the Confederate cause was associated here with defending constitutional freedoms and states' rights, under C.S.A. President Jefferson Davis, C.S.A. Vice-President Alexander H. Stephens, and Georgia Governor Joseph E. Brown.
