Half Moon is the wreck of a former racing sailboat off Miami, outside Bear Cut between Virginia Key and Key Biscayne. Built in Kiel, Germany, in 1908 as Germania with a chrome-nickel steel hull, it was seized in England as a war prize in 1914. After passing through several owners and surviving a severe storm off Virginia, the yacht later served off Miami as a floating restaurant and dance hall before sinking near Key Biscayne in 1930. The wreck is now an archaeological site and one of Florida’s recognized historic dive sites, designated a Florida Underwater Archaeological Preserve in 2000 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.
