Fort Halifax was a temporary frontier fort built on the Susquehanna River near present-day Halifax, Pennsylvania, during the French and Indian War. Established by Colonel William Clapham in 1756 as part of a river supply and defense chain, it served as the chief post between settled areas to the south and Shamokin until criticism of its weak position led residents to seek removal of the garrison in 1757. The post was later abandoned and dismantled in 1763. Archaeological work has since revealed details of its construction, military life, and continuing importance to the history of the region.
