The Museum of American Glass in West Virginia in downtown Weston is a nonprofit museum, archive, and research center dedicated to the history of glassmaking in West Virginia and across the United States. Incorporated in 1993, it grew from efforts to preserve the region’s strong glassmaking heritage, especially in Lewis County, once home to about thirty manufacturers and a leading producer of hand-blown stemware in the 1940s. Open to the public since 1998 and relocated in 2006, it now holds about 18,000 glass pieces on display, extensive research collections and union records, and supports scholarship through publications, conferences, and a large virtual museum.
