Red Bay School began with a one-room building built around 1900 by local citizens across from the Methodist Church, where two teachers taught and all pupils walked to school and to a spring for water. A later white frame school stood where Bay Tree Park is now, with four rooms downstairs, three upstairs, and an auditorium, and by 1910 it had six teachers, though Red Bay did not yet have a twelfth grade. That school burned in 1926, and classes met in town churches and the old theater building while a new brick school was built. In that new building, grades 1-12 were taught, making it Red Bay's first high school, which opened in 1927-28. In the 1930's an agriculture and home economics building was constructed, and as enrollment grew, extra classrooms and a lunchroom were added. A gymnasium was added in 1949, and a junior high building and lunchroom were added in the mid 1950's. On Nov 27, 1967, the forty-year-old building burned, and classes were again held in churches and the Masonic Hall until a new modern elementary building was completed in 1969. The combined Red Bay School campus covers approximately 40 acres and has an educational and athletic program, and the lunchroom offers breakfast as well as lunch.
