While retreating to Ohio from Cumberland Gap, part of U.S.A. Brigadier General Geo. W. Morgan’s command passed by here and obtained supplies on September 21, 1862. A force of 40 local citizens drove off 75 Southern partisan guerrillas on April 14, 1864. On June 17, 1864, Colonel C. H. Hanson and 300 U.S.A. troops pursuing Morgan’s Raiders stopped here to obtain guides and information.
