Built in 1856 for James Robb by the architectural firm of Gallier, Turpin, & Co., this house was purchased in 1901 by the Administrators of the Tulane Educational Fund for use by the H. Sophie Newcomb Memorial College, the college for women within Tulane University, which referred to it as the College "Annex." In 1909, the School of Household Art was established and occupied the building until 1918, when the college moved to its home on Broadway Avenue.
