In 1902 Guglielmo Marconi established a communications station and training school in Babylon, N. Y., for wireless shipto shore communications with ships approaching New York harbor, and for five years this building housed the spark gap transmitting equipment. In 1930 radio pioneer Edwin Armstrong bought the building and gave it to the RCA Radio Central Transmitting Station in Rocky Point as a historical artifact. After Radio Central closed, ownership was officially transferred to the Rocky Point School District in May 1969. Members of the Rocky Point Historical Society maintain and restore the building, and restoration was also completed by the Vincent Landi Sons of Italy Lodge. Members of the Radio Central Amateur Radio Club use the building twice a year, in April to celebrate Marconis birthday and in October to celebrate the official opening of Radio Central at Rocky Point.
