The filled-spandrel concrete arch bridge that carried North Street across the Great Miami River was constructed in 1930 and completed in 1931 by the E.F. Smith Construction Company of Indianapolis, Indiana, replacing a steel whipple truss bridge built around 1900 at the same location. Dedicated June 11, 1931, it linked Downtown Sidney with East Sidney and Dingmansburg. Designed by Henry Overman and Charles P. Smith of the Ohio Department of Highways, Bureau of Bridges, it incorporated neoclassical and art deco elements to create an aesthetically pleasing entrance into Sidney. The bridge was replaced in 2007 because of its deteriorated condition.
