The Lloyd Lewis House in Libertyville, Illinois, near the Des Plaines River, is a single-family home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and completed in 1939. Commissioned by Chicago Daily News editor Lloyd Lewis, it is one of Wright’s Usonian houses, created as a modest American alternative to more formal and costly domestic architecture. Unlike many Usonian designs, it rises to two stories, partly in response to its riverside setting. The design reflects Wright’s recurring aim of placing a house within the landscape rather than apart from it. Its significance brought listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
