Duplin County honored the memory of its sons who gave their lives in World War I, naming men from townships and communities across the county who served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Naval Reserve Force and died between 1917 and 1919, including those killed in action, died of wounds, died of disease, and one listed as missing in action. A verse declared that they came from little towns in a distant land to save their honor and a world aflame, and that they now sleep by little towns in a far land, trusting that the world they won would be kept.
