D. Greg Scott was an Obetz resident who grew up on Obetz Avenue and attended Obetz Elementary School, which stood on this site from 1923 to 1966; although the school closed in 1966, its original gymnasium, lunchroom, and stage still remain in the building behind. He graduated from Hamilton Township High School in 1974 and went on to serve Obetz in many roles, including as an Obetz Zucchinifest volunteer from 2001 until his death in 2021, a member of the Obetz Cemetery Board from 2002 to 2012, and a commissioner on the Obetz Planning & Zoning Commission from 2005 to 2019, where he helped guide projects such as the Creekside and Centerpoint developments that brought thousands of new jobs to Obetz. Elected to Obetz Council in 2008, in a seat previously held by his mother Delores Scott from 1994 through 1997, he helped develop opportunities for residents including Obetz Athletics programs, the Obetz Athletic Club, and the Obetz Conference Center. As mayor from 2012 through 2019, he oversaw the expansion of the Obetz police force and the development of Fortress Obetz, Braehead Park, the Obetz Splashpad/Ice Rink, Area 51 Disc Golf Course, the Obetz Conference Center, Dixon Quarry, and the Dixon Pavilion, leaving a legacy of public service that benefited Obetz residents.
