Earl S. Sloan, born in Zanesfield, Ohio, in 1848 and trained there as a harness maker, turned that early skill into the springboard for other accomplishments and eventually became the renowned manufacturer of “Sloan’s Liniment.” He believed throughout his life in the importance of learning a trade that would provide income, personal satisfaction, and a contribution to society. That belief became a reality for others when he established a trust to provide funds to assist the vocational education of area youth for generations after his death in 1923.
