Derrick Ramsey, born December 23, 1956, in Hastings, Florida, played quarterback and tight end at U.K., where he won the 1976 SEC Championship. In 1977, he played in the Peach Bowl, was first-team all SEC, and was third-team All American as quarterback at U.K. that year. He finished 10-1 and received the #4 ranking in the AP poll. Ramsey also played two games on the basketball team at U.K. He later played tight end for nine seasons for the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders, New England Patriots, and Detroit Lions.
