Chief Looking's Village site, also known as Ward Earth Lodge Village, preserves the remains of a Mandan village on the east side of Pioneer Park in Bismarck, North Dakota. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, it is important because much of what lay below the surface remained undisturbed. The site had not been heavily vandalized or significantly altered by archaeological digging when it was listed, giving it unusual value for understanding Mandan settlement patterns and life in an earth lodge village. Its significance rests both in that research potential and in its status as a protected historic place.
