Three Sisters of Nauset
Transportation
The Three Sisters of Nauset are three historic lighthouses in Eastham on Cape Cod, created to mark a midpoint along the cape’s eastern coast and arranged so mariners could easily tell them from nearby lights. First authorized in 1837 as three small brick towers set in a straight line, they later inspired their name by resembling women in white dresses with black bonnets. Coastal erosion destroyed the original towers and threatened their wooden replacements, leaving only the center light active before Nauset Light replaced it in 1923. The surviving towers were eventually reunited, restored, and re-aligned, preserving a rare reconstruction of an early navigational system.
