Bothe-Napa Valley State Park preserves 1,991 acres of forested land in Napa Valley and is especially known for having the farthest inland coast redwoods in a California state park. The land was originally part of the Rancho Carne Humana Mexican land grant, and the park was established in 1960. In 2011, during California’s budget crisis, it and the adjacent Bale Grist Mill State Historic Park were targeted for closure because of funding shortages. Napa County Parks and Open Space District petitioned the state to operate the park in an effort to keep it open.
