On July 18, 1956, the people of St. Johns, Michigan, dedicated a tree and monument to the courage and sacrifice of their forebears, who founded the city 100 years earlier. Beneath the monument they buried a metal receptacle containing articles and mementoes of that occasion, to be opened in 2056.
