Hopeful Lode, historically known as the Parsons Mine, is an archaeological mining site in the mountains near Nogal, New Mexico. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995, it occupies twenty acres in an unnamed canyon near Tanbark Canyon, Bonito Lake, and Forest Road 108. The portion north of the road preserves visible evidence of mining activity, including four adits, an open cut or glory hole, large waste piles, and two prospect pits. Its importance lies not in monumental remains but in its archaeological potential to reveal early mining technologies and the communities that developed around such workings, while still retaining integrity of location, setting, feeling, and association.
