The Williamson County Jail features Prairie School style architecture and was designed by Spencer and Temple, architects of Champaign, Illinois. The Williamson County Historical Society and Museum became associated with the property in 1972, and in 2007 the United States Department of the Interior placed it on the National Register of Historic Places.
