Built for B.T. Smith in 1900 by Virgil Sullivan Rabb Jr. (1870-1943), one of the area's premier builders, this house was designed in the folk Victorian style, with decorative detailing on its eaves, brackets, and crowns. Joseph Charles "JC" Leshikar, born in Austin County to Czech immigrants in 1870, married Frantiska "Fannie" Langer in 1893 and bought his first business, the Place Saloon in Smithville, in 1894 at age 24. He later expanded his business interests to include land, oil, and gas and became a director of the First State Bank of Smithville. The Leshikar family lived in this home from 1903 to 1976, and Joseph and Frantiska Leshikar are buried in Oak Hill Cemetery.
