The earliest mention of the Hope School appears in the accounting records of the Board of School Commissioners in 1865. It appears again in the 1892 land records survey as "Colored School No. 2, District No. 6," situated on the east side of the public road leading from Hope to Ashland in the sixth district of Queen Anne's County. The one-room school housed grades one through seven, and one teacher taught all grades and subjects. The school closed in 1938 and was later restored by the Retired Teacher's Association.
