Built in the 1790s, this two-and-a-half-story gray fieldstone house became the home of Judge Hugh M. Morris, a Delaware native, respected attorney, and distinguished federal judge, after he purchased it with a large parcel of land in 1933. Alongside his judicial service, Morris built one of the state's most important law practices and remained closely involved with the University of Delaware, while also running his farm, buying more land, and turning the farmhouse into a comfortable home for his family. He remodeled the house inside and out but retained most of its original features. In his will, Morris directed that the house and land go to the University of Delaware upon his death. A university graduate who later served as president of its board of trustees, he left a property that Delaware's Division of Parks and Recreation purchased in 1998 and added to White Clay Creek State Park.
