The F-15 Eagle fighter was designed in 1967 to meet the Air Forces need for a dedicated air superiority fighter. By the time it entered service in 1976, it had already broken a world record for climbing above 98,000 feet in under 3 and a half minutes from takeoff. Its mission later expanded to that of an all-weather tactical fighter, helping make it a workhorse for the Air Force during the Persian Gulf War, where it scored 36 of the 39 air victories over Iraqi aircraft. Variants of the aircraft are still active and are scheduled to remain in service until 2025.
