Joseph Taylor Robinson lived at 204 NE Front St. and practiced law in Lonoke from 1893 to 1912, then served as a U.S. Congressman from 1902 to 1913, Governor of Arkansas from January to March 1913, and U.S. Senator from 1913 to 1937. Lonoke took its name from a lone oak tree, a surveyor's landmark for the Memphis-Little Rock Railroad in 1858, and the tree grew at 106 McKinley. Eberts Field, a U.S. Signal Corps Aviation Training School on 640 acres on Hwy 89N donated by citizens, was named for Lt. M.M. Eberts, an aviator killed in 1917.
