Mount Chapin is a 12,454-foot summit in Rocky Mountain National Park’s Mummy Range, west-northwest of Estes Park. Though surrounded by higher country, it is distinguished by strong local relief, especially where its south face rises about 2,700 feet above the Fall River in less than a mile. Its waters drain north through Chapin Creek to the Cache la Poudre River and south to the Fall River. Officially named in 1932, the mountain honors Frederick H. Chapin, whose 1889 book on the peaks around Estes Park helped document the region. Today it remains part of the park’s protected high-country landscape.
