Minam State Recreation Area is a roughly 600-acre Oregon state park along the Wallowa River in northeastern Oregon, about 15 miles northeast of Elgin and north of La Grande. Managed for simple outdoor recreation rather than heavy development, it is generally open year-round and offers 22 primitive campsites, restrooms, a boat ramp, and a walking trail. Visitors come for picnicking, boating, and steelhead fishing in the Wallowa, but the park’s broad appeal lies in its relatively wild river setting. Deer, bear, and elk are commonly seen there, with occasional cougar and bighorn sheep adding to its backcountry character.
