Established in 1859 near present-day Brule in western Nebraska, Diamond Springs Stage Station became part of the overland transportation network after Russell, Majors and Waddell acquired Jones and Russell’s Leavenworth and Pike’s Peak Express Company. In the mid-19th century, it served both the Pony Express and the Overland Stage, connecting it to two major mail and passenger routes across the Plains. Its importance today lies not in surviving buildings but in the preserved archaeological landscape: although no above-ground structures remain, the unploughed site still shows traces of building areas. Its relatively undisturbed condition led to its listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
