New Baltimore was greatly indebted to Nick Koenig and his family of Lakeside Gardens for their leadership in community betterment and civic pride. Known as the city's "Good-Will Ambassador," he cheerfully gave his time, himself, and beautiful flowers. In honor of his outstanding work with exotic specimens of dahlia horticulture, he was named the "Dahlia King of America" in 1938, and the title was continuously echoed as the city was designated the "world capital of the glorious dahlia." His memory lives on as his family keeps his legacy alive through the cultivation of this radiant garden.
