Shandy Hall is a two-story stone home on the bluff above Big Spring, built by William Prince on his two-hundred-acre survey made in 1798. Prince, a Revolutionary War veteran from South Carolina, began the town on the waters of Eddy Creek. In 1817, Princetown became the county seat of Caldwell County. Its name was changed to Princeton the next year, and it was situated on a fifty-acre donation from Prince's heirs.
