The EcoTarium in Worcester, Massachusetts, grew from the Worcester Lyceum of Natural History, founded in 1825, into a regional science and nature museum on 60 acres with galleries, outdoor wildlife areas, a digital planetarium, and a narrow-gauge train. Over nearly two centuries it moved through several Worcester locations before settling in its purpose-built home in 1971, designed by Edward Durell Stone. Its identity also evolved, becoming the Worcester Science Center, then the New England Science Center, and finally the EcoTarium in 1998, reflecting a broader focus on science, nature, and environmental learning. Later renovations and exhibit changes continued that long transformation.
