Following the incorporation of E Clampus Vitus in 1940, its corporate officers met in different cities and towns, did not meet annually, and first met in Sonora in 1947. By 1962, the Grand Council and Board of Proctors had been created, and these bodies met in Murphys through 1993, when the meetings were moved to Mariposa. The corporate meetings were moved to Antioch in 1997, and after that convocation a pervasive feeling lingered that the Clampatriarchs had lost the spiritual connection to their roots in the Mother Lode, an area central to E Clampus Vitus being revived. To address this concern, past proctor Eddie Hawkins and Sublime Noble Grand Humbug Loren Wilson facilitated moving the annual meeting back to Sonora.
