Buildings near here dated from 1897 and housed an academy under the auspices of the Friends Church that was noted for high moral, spiritual, and scholastic standards. The academy closed in 1922. It was named for the teacher of the first school in this vicinity, established in 1893 in a sod house near Stella Church in the Cherokee Strip.
