Wonderland Cave in Bella Vista, Arkansas, long recognized as the largest cave in northwestern Arkansas, has a published history reaching back to 1868 and became notable for the unusual variety of uses it served. After its purchase in 1917, Clarence A. Linebarger developed it and opened part of it as a nightclub in 1930, with a chamber deep inside outfitted for music, drinks, and seating. The cave later hosted the Arkansas State General Assembly, housed a winery and wine-aging operation, remained a tour site after the nightclub closed, served as a bomb shelter during the Cold War, briefly returned to nightlife, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
