The county’s second church was a double log house built about 1808 by Quakers from North Carolina. It was named Mad River until 1819, when the name was changed to Goshen Friends. At this site also stood Logan County’s first schoolhouse, a small log cabin for the education of Quaker children, which was replaced by brick in 1823 and became the county’s first free public school.
