Soda Springs Mountain Resort, in California’s Sierra Nevada near Lake Tahoe, is the state’s longest continuously operating ski resort and one of the original ski areas in the United States. It opened in 1929 as Beacon Hill, giving it a distinctive place in California skiing history through its long uninterrupted operation. Commonly known as Soda Springs, the resort spans 200 acres with 19 trails rising from 6,700 feet at the base to 7,352 feet at the summit. Its terrain is weighted toward beginners, with intermediate and advanced runs as well. Average annual snowfall of about 232 inches has helped sustain skiing there for so long.
