In 1839, Benjamin Ragsdale operated a tailor shop at this location. The building later housed a drug store owned by Dr. W.W. Alexander, who sold it to Dr. E. Daniels in 1876. Around the 1890s, the Crow Dynasty, James L. Crow and Son, took possession of the corner and constructed a brick building that was used as a grocery store for many years. Later, George Crow, son of James, added an innovative feature by operating a peanut roaster on the sidewalk for customers. Copenhaver Jewelers operated a successful business here from the 1940s until 1987.
