The Decatur County School Gymnasium was built in 1939 with hand-chiseled blocks from the county's limestone quarries using Works Progress Administration labor. Reuben L. Haney served as county supervisor, Roy N. Stout as building supervisor, and Jecondra Masai as supervisor, with a building committee of Cleo Spence, H.D. Pevahouse, Roy N. Stout, W.C. White, and J.S. England as secretary and treasurer. The structure burned on January 22, 1956. A memorial dedicated on October 15, 2013 was built with limestone blocks and the cornerstone from the original historic gymnasium.
