Frederick Gilbert Bourne, a member of the Chippewa, Frontenac, Thousand Islands, and New York Yacht Club and commodore there from 1903 to 1905, as well as the Jekyll Island Club, owned 15 registered yachts during his lifetime. He bought the Artemis in 1898, and it carried Bourne and architect Flagg to Dark Island to inspect castle construction from 1903 to 1905. Later sold to Fred and Nellie Frazier of Cherry Island, the vessel was renamed Nelfred and remained on the St. Lawrence River until 1924.
