Founded in 1882 in a dugout, this was the oldest drugstore in the county. Its first building, erected in 1884, housed the office of Dr. H. H. Rhoads, a co-owner who served as county health officer for 40 years. The first newspaper in the county, the Vernon Hornet, had its shop in the store building, and horse-drawn streetcars passed by. The present building was erected in 1901, and in 1958 the store filled its 1,000,000th prescription. Its customers included the first Anglo-American born in Wilbarger County.
