Joseph Foster built this graceful brick home around 1831 in the Federal Style. Robert Sandford acquired it in 1839 and remodeled it during the 1840s, adding fine Greek Revival details such as the colonnaded entry. The building served as a tavern in the late 19th century, and the Smith family operated their general store in the first-floor double parlor in the 1930s. Its front wall was extensively repaired after a van struck it in 2001.
