Currie windmills, built in Topeka, Kansas, beginning in 1911 until the company ceased operations in the 1950's, were known as the “poor man's windmill.” A Currie cost $14.00 in 1911, $17.50 during the Depression years, and $39.00 in the 1950's. The Currie Windmill was one of the few mills manufactured into the 20th century that never used rivets. These mills used hard wood bearings, allowing the company to claim that “our bearings never wear out.” They were known for being well constructed and long lasting.
