This one-and-a-half story Victorian Eclectic style house was constructed circa 1895 by James Perry Freeze, an early LDS pioneer active in local business, church, and civic affairs. After purchasing 184 acres in 1881 for $7,800, he likely built the house for his second wife, Sarah Jane Granter. Her son, Sherman G. Freeze, later sold some of the land to the City of Murray, and it became part of Murray City Park. The house features hip-roofed dormers, a dentil stringcourse, rock-faced brick at the tops of window openings and above the foundation, a coursed rock-faced sandstone foundation, leaded and transom windows, and shingle-sided dormers, and it is a key contributor to the Murray Downtown Historic District.
