H. G. Kirby dedicated himself to serving his country and community as a decorated World War II veteran who received the Meritorious Unit Award, Rhineland Campaign Ribbon, and Bronze Star during service in England, France, Belgium, and Germany. He gave 22 years of service on the Sumner County Election Committee and served on the Sumner County Health and Safety Committee. He assisted the incorporation of the City of Westmoreland and served the town as alderman, recorder, judge, and two-term mayor. He was also Westmoreland VFW Commander, a pilot for over 50 years, a lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol, and a member of the EAA. His working career included 20 years as a retiree of Western Auto Supply Company as a division manager, 12 years as a retiree of Service Star Corporation (Tru Value), and 37 years in partnership with his son, Jerry, at Kirby Auto Supply, Inc. (Napa), in Westmoreland. He was a Mason, a Scottish Rite and 32nd Degree Shriner, President of the Sumner County Shriner Club, a member of the Sumner County Clowns, a charter member of the Shriner al Menah greeter unit and its two-term captain, and a member of Westmoreland United Methodist Church.
