Mount Adams Recreation Area is a twenty-one-thousand-acre protected landscape on the east side of Mount Adams in Washington, within the Yakama Indian Reservation and managed by the Yakama Nation Tribal Forestry Program. Centered on the mountain’s rugged eastern slopes, it includes deep canyons, glacial creeks, cliffs, glaciers, and the difficult Great Gap, a trail-less section of the Around the Mountain route. Bird Creek Meadows, Hellroaring Overlook, Crooked Creek Falls, and Little Mount Adams are notable destinations and landmarks. Rough roads, dangerous crossings, and serious climbing conditions make this area both a scenic recreation destination and a demanding backcountry environment.
