A giant red apple structure in Leominster, Massachusetts stands 10 feet tall as the largest apple sculpture of its kind in New England and is large enough to hold an estimated 20,639 apples inside. It was officially unveiled on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 by the Johnny Appleseed Trail Association to honor the region's strong agricultural heritage, its connection to apples, and Johnny Appleseed. American pioneer and folk hero John Chapman, also known as Johnny Appleseed, was born locally in Leominster and is the official state folk hero for Massachusetts. The Big Apple of New England is part of an effort to promote North Central Massachusetts to travelers and visitors.
